Desk cleaning time!
- Stripes and Bands - long stitches over a garter stitch background
- Open Mock Cable 2 - one of the many pseudo cable patterns
- Two-color Beehive - a polka dot pattern
- Brick 1 - less of a brick than a horizontal wavy line.
- Full Patent - results in a loose ribbing
- Half Patent - also results in loose ribbing, more open than the Full Patent
- Grand Eyelet Lace - lots of open space.
- Clove - tiny little knots
- Lacy Leaves - leaf pattern with faggot columns
- Tulip Bud 2 - leaves and flower pattern
- Rose Trellis Lace - I made mistakes when I worked this one. I should do it over.
- Off-Center Trellis - the trelis is made with an odd-number of cabled ribs. The moss stitch inside some of the diamonds is a nice touch.
- Celtic Braid 4 - this would work better in machine knitting.
- Rose Leaf Lace - this is from a very old book and it took me three tries to figure it out. It is a lovely, complex edging.
- Hook 10 - one of the Turkish patterns that looks like it came off an Oriental rug.
- Wide Cables - This might work best if three of these cables were done side-by-side with the placement of the cable crossing staggered. That would help open up and add some structure to the long stretch between crosses. Otherwise, this pattern just seems awkward.
- Snake Eyes - This might be more attractive if the background was stockinette rather than garter.
- Openwork - this is the subject if another blog entry, “Anguish and Old Lace.” This edging would seem in place on a large piece, a bedspread for example. The outermost portion of the edging has an appearance similar to the crocheted pineapple pattern found in many crocheted doily patterns. That portion of the pattern could probably be spun off into a smaller, less complex lace edging all by itself.
- Diamond Edging - I had a little trouble with this one curling on the points. I would caution to work the outer edge stitches loosely to reduce the risk of curling.
- Triple-Braided Diamonds - this pattern produces a version of a Celtic knot.
- Traveling Leaf - this is a not very convincing version of the leave pattern. Not that it is a bad pattern — I just would hesitate to use ‘leaf’ to describe it.
- Twin Trees 2 - such a pleasing pattern. Who doesn’t like this cable pattern showing intertwined tree branches?
- Tightly-Woven Fabric - this stitch is very interesting on both sides of the fabric. The ‘wrong side’ looks like Seed stitch. I would like to see it used with a variegated yarn to make a kimono.
- Lucky Leaf - it is fun to watch the leaf bouquet appear as you work through this pattern.
- Double Stockinette 2 - this pattern results in a herringbone fabric on one side and ribs on the other. It does not lay flat.
- Christmas Trees - the open work that results in the trees could be adapted to make trees of various sizes.
- Elegant Diamonds - this is staple Aran sweater element.
- Counter-Twisted Oval - this is one of the cable-within-a-cable patterns. It is attractive.
- Soft - This is ribbing with a little bit of lace between the columns.
- Fancy Rib 1 - this is a simple 3 x 1 rib.
- Mistake Rib - this is a popular, reversible rib pattern often used on sock hats.
- Concentric Squares - in most guages, this should be called Concentric Rectangles.
- Cathedral - meant to remind us of a the architecture of a stained glass window.
- Crossed Banners - this pattern has a heraldic appearance.
- Rosebud - lace circlets.
- Hook 9 - another Turkish pattern that mimics a piece of an Oriental rug.
- Mock Rib 2 - this is a rib and seed stitch mixture.
- Fancy Rib 3 - also a rib and seed stitch mixture.
- Mesh - one of the simplest lace patterns.
- Trevi Fountain - this is a spin on the coin cable pattern
- Raisin - this is an interesting mixture of knot-like bumps on a lacy background
- Diagonal Brioche 2 - this results in a honeycomb, open pattern
- Portcullis 2 - this is a simple lace pattern
- Portcullis 3 - same as Portcullis 2 only in two colors - it makes a big difference.
- Oak Leaves 2 - a lovely use of closed-end cables to make leaf patterns.
- Irish Net - twist stitches turned to an openwork pattern
- VanDyke Faggot - typical of the faggoting lace patterns
- Large Lace Diamond - large diamonds set off by a layer of lace faggoting
- Lace Stripe - at first glance this appears to be a faggoting type of lace, but the threads of the lace are not twisted around each other as is the case with faggoting.
- Double Seed Ribbing - just as the name implies.
- Knotted Rib 3 - this looks a bit more like a lace than a rib.
- Spanish Tile Cable-Back Cross - a variation of a cable diamond
- Fireworks - uses twist stitches, fagotting and bobbles to create fireworks sprays
- Lace Thorns - more depth than the usual lace faggoting
- Creative Cord - columns of knots set against a garter stitch background
- Double-Wrapped Braid - an odd number of ribs causes this braid to be off center
- Two-color Wrapped Stripes - open, almost lacelike
- Flat Patent - looks like ribbing but is not elastice
- Pearl Patent - open and fluffy
- Double Stitch Double Color - attractive, two-color with texture
- Chains in Relief - two colors resulting in horizontal ‘chains’
- Grid 1 - highly textured, two-color, horizontal pattern
- Grid 2 - results in interesting horizontal stripes
- Moss 2 - one of the several moss stitch variations
- German Honeycomb - honeycomb lace
- Moss Blocks - looks like a rib
- Cellular - looks a lot like the German Honeycomb
- Figure-Eight Diamond - a cable within a cable
- Fancy Rib 2 - columns of knots create an attractive texture
- Ladder Lace Rib - columns of knots on a reverse stockinette background
- Crazy Curl 2 - another Turkish take-off on an Oriental rug detail
- Open Mock Cable 1 - one of the many pseudo cable patterns
- Lacy Mock Cable - what? another pseudo cable? I’m shocked!
- Ribbed Cable - for most of the pattern it is a ribbed cable, but the ribbing is not carried though all the cable crosses. The crosses are three part and result in more depth
- Triangle with Lace Hypotenuse - faggoting on a diagonal
- Razor Shell 3 - one of the many vertical razor laces, really just an elaborate faggoting
- Little Leaf Stripe - this is a lot like the Travelling Leaf pattern
- Feather - this is a lot like the Razor Shell patterns
- Star Rib Mesh - another faggoting lace
- Gooseberry - this is one of the several berry or trinity patterns
- Fantasy Braid - a Celtic knot
- Cable and Ladder - a conventional three part cable set off with faggoting
That’s enough!
